Brestnichka: There is no plan for the National Children's Hospital, there are no staff, the financing is unclear

The reason for the collective resignation of the Public Council of the National Children's Hospital is the refusal to grant access to the assignment for the construction of the largest pediatric medical institution in our country. We cannot stand with our names behind this assignment without having seen it. The Ministry of Health said that this access is limited by law, but lawyers explained that there should be no problem if the members sign a confidentiality declaration and bear the corresponding responsibility. This was said by Maria Brestnichka, a member of the Public Council, on the air of “Your Day” on NOVA NEWS.

She pointed out that the reason for the resignation was this access to the assignment, but there is also another important problem, namely the proposal to the Minister of Health to include an architect in the composition, which has been pending for four months.

„The big reason for the resignation is that in 2 and a half years we have not once received assurance that in 2029 we will not just have a very large, expensive, but empty building. Anyone who has managed a project, and such a complex one at that, knows that there must be a plan. There is none”, explained Brestnichka.

She stated that during the period during which the Public Council was working, the question was repeatedly raised that this hospital should be consulted with the currently operating children's clinics. This entire process should be together with the doctors and nurses, she added and emphasized that such consultation never took place. Brestnichka asked where the staff for this hospital would come from and stated that this is a case that must be resolved by the Ministry of Health.

However, she specified that they are not giving up on the idea of a National Children's Hospital.

Regarding the financing of the hospital, she said that it is related to what entity the medical institution will be registered as. As for whether such a thing has been secured, the answer must be given again by the Ministry of Health. According to her and based on a study in the state budget, it is still not clear where it will come from.
