In Sofia, a driver was caught with 2.29 per mille of alcohol

The accused was detained for 72 hours. He has already been convicted of a similar crime

The Sofia District Prosecutor's Office has charged and detained a 59-year-old man who was driving with 2.29 per mille of alcohol, Nova TV reports. On November 8 at 10:30 a.m. on Iskarsko Shose Street in Sofia, the accused was stopped for a check by police officers. He was tested with a “Alcotest – Dräger 7510“, and the sample showed that he had sat behind the wheel with an alcohol concentration of 2.29 per mille. The driver refused to give a sample for examination in a hospital.

For such a crime, the law provides for a punishment of “deprivation of liberty“ for a term of 1 to 5 years and a fine of 2,000 to 10,000 leva. By a prosecutor's decree, the accused was detained for a term of up to 72 hours.

The driver was convicted of an identical crime, the press center of the state prosecution indicates. The prosecutor is about to file a request with the Sofia District Court for the determination of a permanent measure of detention “detention in custody“.
