Residents of the capital's "Mladost 1" district protested against the intention to regulate the inter-block space between blocks 29 and 30, bTV reported.
According to them, the procedure is the first step towards building the only larger green area in the area. There is currently no building permit issued for the site, but a procedure is underway to specify the boundaries between private and municipal property, the Sofia Municipality confirmed.
However, residents believe that this is a sign of future construction activity and fear that a tall building could appear on the site.
“Over 10,000 people live here. This is the only free space. Children play, people walk. If a block of flats is built here, we will breathe concrete“, the protesters say on bTV.
According to them, the area lacks sufficient children's and sports grounds, and parking spaces have long been lacking. Locals insist that the site remain a green area, and the property owner - if necessary - be compensated with another plot of land.
