Radan Kanev explained about his son's arrest

I do not underestimate his actions, for which he will suffer consequences according to the law

MEP Radan Kanev published a post on social media regarding his son's arrest yesterday.

Here is what he wrote:

"Yesterday morning, at around 9:10, after visiting friends, my son Boris, 16, was stopped for a routine check by a Ministry of Interior patrol, near our home, in the "Manastirski Livadi" neighborhood. The police found about a gram of marijuana in him. They called immediately, I met them at the scene of the check, where we signed the relevant documents and my son voluntarily handed over the discovered substance to the criminal police".

"He was then taken to the 6th Police Station, where he was remanded in police custody for up to 24 hours. He was later released after being charged with possession of a narcotic substance, which was a minor case. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case, in which he and our entire family will cooperate in good faith.

"I do not underestimate his actions, for which he will face consequences according to the law. Regardless of how common the use of marijuana is and how accessible it is to our children, Denitsa and I have never shown tolerance for prohibited substances and have spent a lot of time convincing our child not to succumb to this temptation. To our regret and chagrin, we clearly did not find the right approach.

Honestly, I do not understand why it is necessary in these cases for children to be detained, especially since the parents reacted even before the detention. But from many conversations with acquaintances and fellow lawyers, I understood that this is the usual practice of the Ministry of Interior. "Without approving it, I don't expect different rules to apply to our family. I hope they will be changed in the future," writes Radan Kanev.
