In the first hours of the New Year, it will be possible to pay only in cash, reports bTV.
The banking sector is preparing for the transition to the euro immediately after midnight on December 31.
On New Year's Eve, however, for a certain period of time, it will be impossible to withdraw from an ATM or pay with a card at a POS terminal. Due to the interruption of these services, the only means of payment will be cash.
After 0:00 on January 1, in addition to leva, we will also be able to pay with the new currency.
The technical interruption is related to the setting up of banking systems, and next week the banking sector will announce how many hours exactly the blockage will last.
"If we are talking about 20 or 30 minutes, there will be no problem for people to wait to pay their bill if they do not have cash on them. However, if it becomes an hour, an hour and a half or two, this already makes the work impossible in general, because in recent years it has been observed that people use very little cash on New Year's Day, over 70-80% are card payments after 12 noon," explained Richard Alibegov, chairman of the Association of Restaurants in Bulgaria.
