The state of disaster in Blagoevgrad region remains in force for the territory of four municipalities - Petrich, Sandanski, Strumyani and Simitli. The reason is the prolonged intense rainfall, which led to the overflow of rivers and ravines, causing damage to infrastructure and private properties.

The situation is the most severe in the municipality of Sandanski, where the water element hit the villages of Novo Delchevo, Dzhigurovo and Leshnitsa. Dozens of homes have been flooded, and streets and agricultural areas are under water.

At the moment, a commission is describing the extent of the damage to the infrastructure and private properties in order to proceed with restoration activities immediately after the waters recede.

Specialized teams are continuously monitoring the reservoirs in the region. Currently, controlled release is required only at the "Beli Breg" dam, located near Sandanski.

"Irrigation Systems" assures that there is no danger to the population. The water from the reservoir is directed to a ravine that does not pass through settlements, and flows directly into the Struma River, without creating a risk of additional flooding in urban areas.

The meteorological situation remains complicated. According to the forecast of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH), intense rainfall is expected again today in the Blagoevgrad region. The authorities are calling on residents to be cautious and limit travel in the affected areas.
