For the second day, six villages in Ardino Municipality have been cut off from the world due to a reinforced concrete bridge, which is the only road connection, being flooded by the Arda River.
According to the mayor of the village of Rusalsko, the situation is calm and there are no people in need of medical assistance, BNT reports.
The bridge is part of a national road. It was built on one of the fords of the Arda River more than 50 years ago.
During heavy rainfall and heavy snowmelt, the river floods the concrete structure.
The mayor of Ardino, Izet Shaban, said that he had repeatedly urged the Road Agency to build a new bridge there.
The state of emergency declared in the region remains in effect until the weather conditions normalize.
The movement of vehicles in the critical section is prohibited.
