The low-emission zone for cars comes into effect in Sofia from today. The most polluting cars from the first and second ecological groups will not have the right to access the central parts of the city.

The restrictions will be in effect until the end of February 2026, and control will be carried out with 180 cameras located at the outer points of the two ring roads.

Information about the bans is available on the website of the Sofia Municipality. Deputy Mayor Nadezhda Bobcheva reminded those living in the ban zones that they must request stickers from the Urban Mobility Center in order to avoid being fined. Those with disability stickers also have this right, Bobcheva explained.

The fines for unauthorized entry into the low-emission zone are from 50 BGN to 200 BGN for individuals and from 1,000 BGN to 2,000 BGN for legal entities. The border boulevards are not part of the zone and passage along them is allowed for all vehicles. Directional signs will help drivers navigate the traffic.
