Yovo Nikolov: These protests are comparable to 1997.

The state is a financial pyramid, from whose bottom base is taken to feed an oligarchy of 100-200-1000 people, he said

“I have been to almost all the protests since 1989. In my opinion, these protests are comparable to the protests in 1997 against the government of Zhan Videnov. I was at the protest, what surprised me too is that I did not meet any familiar people there. There were so many people, so many young people - the generation that is protesting has changed“. This was commented on “This Morning“ by journalist Yovo Nikolov.

“I toured the entire protest, it just happened that way, I wanted to meet there with friends who were on the other side. So densely, tightly packed together, young people with small children…”, he pointed out and added that a video circulated on the networks in which young parents were asked why they were with their child, and they replied “Well, she and the grandmother are here and there is no one to leave her with“.

“These protests are different from what we did in 2013, 2020. The generation that is protesting has completely changed. I will quote another slogan from the protest “The situation is so bad that even introverts are here“, commented Yovo Nikolov.

Political analyst Georgi Harizanov pointed out that the protest was large-scale, with many thousands of people. In his words, the protest has set a much newer, much more complex task for the government, it has outgrown the budget issue.

"Corruption is part of the redistribution of resources that are taken from the people, it has always been a part. And reducing public spending will inevitably lead to reducing corruption. This is the most natural process", commented Georgi Harizanov.

„Those 52 million that were withdrawn in cash, in advance for the “Hemus“ highway are not corruption, they are theft. During this budget, young people realized that this government - for 10 to 12 years, is actually a theft from young people and their future“, pointed out Yovo Nikolov.

„This increase in taxes and the rate, the increase in spending, this is, imagine, the state - a financial pyramid. And this financial pyramid, from its lower large base, takes to feed an oligarchy of 100-200-1000 people“, he commented and added that Bulgaria no longer receives money from the EU as it used to and as they wish, they have to take money from the people“, he also commented.

Georgi Harizanov, however, pointed out that the money from the EU for Bulgaria has not been stopped.

In the words of Yovo Nikolov, young people are aware of the "feeding of a caste" that feeds on taxes.

Yovo Nikolov drew attention to the protests in other large cities as well.

Georgi Harizanov, however, pointed out that the money from the EU for Bulgaria has not been stopped.

When asked whether it will lead to resignation, he commented: “This is part of the complexity of the task and for those in power, and in front of the opposition, because the opposition should present a worthy alternative and say, “we think that these people will govern better, in this way“. Something that at least so far has not been a fact. And in front of the ruling party, the complexity of the task is how, on the one hand, to deal with the popular discontent and how, on the other hand, this does not happen “through the emergency exit“, giving all the power to the president and that we enter the eurozone“.
