The last two Bulgarian F-16 Block 70s under the first contract with „Lockheed Martin“ have arrived in Bulgaria.
They were welcomed by the Minister of Defense Atanas Zapryanov and the Chief of Defense Admiral Emil Eftimov. The planes landed on home soil at the Third Air Base in the village of Graf Ignatievo.
The two combat aircraft - a single-seater and a two-seater, flew to Bulgaria with the insignia of the US Air Force. After landing at the Third Air Base, they will be replaced with the insignia of the Bulgarian Air Force.
The planes were also welcomed by the Deputy Commander of the Air Force Brigadier General Dimitar Georgiev, Acting Commander of the 3rd Air Base Colonel Metodi Orlov, representatives from the US Air Forces in Europe and Africa, and the US Embassy in Bulgaria.
The Bulgarian Air Force will have one squadron of F-16 Block 70s after eight more aircraft are delivered under the second contract with “Lockheed Martin Aeronautics“.
