The Municipal Election Commission in Varna was supposed to meet in connection with a letter from the Central Election Commission dated December 19, related to the vacations of Mayor Blagomir Kotsev, but the meeting failed due to lack of quorum.

Thus it was postponed for the second time and will be held in January next year.

Shortly before the scheduled meeting, the Mayor of Varna Blagomir Kotsev met with François Decoster, chairman of the "Renew Europe" group in the Committee of the Regions.

Decoster also commented on the topic of the rule of law.

He said that on July 18, our country was admitted to the eurozone, on the same day the European Commission published the report on the rule of law, which also touched on the issue of the implementation of the law in Bulgaria.

The document also reflected the problems in Varna. According to Decoster, the arrest of Mayor Blagomir Kotsev was politically motivated.

François Decoster, Chairman of the “Renew Europe“ Group in the Committee of the Regions: "Across Europe, we are noticing a bad trend - pressure on local democracy. The rule of law and the rule of law are weakening at the local and regional levels. We, as members of the Committee of the Regions in the European Union, stand firmly in the position of protecting the rule of law at the local level. Today we are here to express our strong support for Mayor Blagomir Kotsev.

Blagomir Kotsev, Mayor of Varna: "The events of recent months in Bulgaria have sparked debate and resonance both nationally and in European institutions. The topic was also raised in the European Parliament, where the "Renew Europe" group also played a central role in the discussion of this debate. I thank them for taking a stand and making sure that the events and problems in Bulgaria are heard at the European level."
