An eighteen-year-old youth from the village of Medkovets was detained in Montana for driving after using cocaine, the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the city announced, quoted by BTA.

The driver was stopped for a check yesterday at around 5:15 p.m. on “Montana“ Boulevard. The field test showed the presence of cocaine in his body. The youth was taken to a hospital for a blood sample for laboratory testing and was then detained for up to 24 hours. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case under Article 343 of the Criminal Code.

A week earlier, a 32-year-old man was detained in Lom for driving after using cocaine and amphetamine. Since August 2023, after legislative changes came into effect, over 100 cars have been seized from drunk and drugged drivers in the Montana region, and about 150 others will have to pay the value of the car if they were driving it without it being their property.

Meanwhile, strong winds with speeds of up to 70 km/h were reported in Montana in the morning, with gusts weakening to about 42 km/h by noon. The wind knocked down a large tree on the Montana-Vidin road, between the villages of Studeno Buche and Doctor Yosifovo. Firefighters promptly removed it without stopping traffic.

Montana Regional Governor Kalin Haitov assured that there are no settlements without electricity and water supply and that the situation in the region remains normal.
