The last year in which we count in leva, the results of Sofia Municipality show that we have had even better financial discipline, we have managed public resources better and we have achieved better results, without increasing local taxes and fees.

This was written on his personal Facebook page by the mayor of Sofia, Vasil Terziev. Here's what else he shared:

"How did we do it?

Nearly 700,000 leva additional interest income.

For the first time, Sofia Municipality has applied an active and responsible approach to the management of temporarily free budget funds. Through short-term deposits, in full compliance with the principles of security and liquidity, we have realized 691,866.75 leva interest income - funds that will be invested back into the city and public services.

With these funds, the municipality can:

• design 3 new kindergartens;

• design the renovation of 14 schoolyards;

• or to repair a central city intersection.

Over 1 billion leva of own revenues – without increasing taxes and fees.

In 2025, Sofia Municipality crossed the historic threshold of over 1 billion leva of own revenues from local taxes and fees, without a single increase. This is the result of higher collection rates, stricter control and more and easier ways to pay through electronic services and automation.

Next year, these amounts will already be reported in euros – we expect over 511 million euros of own revenues.

Regardless of the currency, the most important thing remains the same: revenues to continue to grow without an additional burden on citizens – This is exactly our expectation for 2026.

Therefore, we enter 2026 not only with readiness for currency conversion, but also with a clear commitment: not a single local tax or fee will be increased.

And with a consistent policy for even better management of the city's funds and more investments in the quality of life in Sofia".
