The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Bulgaria, Eleonora Mitrofanova, sent a New Year's message in which she expressed hope for peace in Europe and the restoration of constructive dialogue between Sofia and Moscow.
"2025 was not an easy year for either Russian-Bulgarian relations or the world as a whole. Tensions on the European continent continued to grow", the diplomat said in her address, which was published on the embassy's Facebook page.
"Yet, New Year's Eve is always a time of hope for the best and faith in miracles. I, like, I think, many of you, would very much like the existing contradictions to be resolved in 2026 and for peace in Europe again", adds Mitrofanova.
"As the Ambassador of Russia to Bulgaria, I would also like our countries to return to the path of constructive cooperation in accordance with the spirit of our common history", she adds.

Dear compatriots and Bulgarian friends,
2025 was not an easy year for either Russian-Bulgarian relations or the world as a whole. Tensions on the European continent continued to grow. EU countries escalated their military rhetoric, using a fictional “Russian threat“ as a pretext to intimidate the population and justify socio-economic problems. We were further from mutual understanding than ever, but we never met the counter-desire to hear each other.
Over the many centuries of its existence, Russia has already has overcome many trials – I am sure that it will also cope with the challenges of today. Our people remain united and united. We firmly believe in the rightness of our cause and will do everything to protect the interests of our Motherland.
Yet, New Year's Eve is always a time of hope for the best and faith in miracles. I, like, I think, many of you, would very much like the existing contradictions to be resolved in 2026 and peace to return to Europe. As the Ambassador of Russia to Bulgaria, I would also like our countries to return to the path of constructive cooperation in accordance with the spirit of our common history.
