Zarkov: The protest will be even stronger if arrogance continues

According to the former MP, the big problem of Bulgarian politicians is that they underestimate the intelligence of the people. Citizens see who is the real holder of power and from whom to seek responsibility

The protest will be realized again with even greater force if arrogance continues to rule.

This was stated to the Bulgarian National Radio by Krum Zarkov - former acting Minister of Justice, former Secretary to the President for Legal Affairs and former MP.

"It is an honor to Rosen Zhelyazkov that he named things, but only half. Why doesn't he dare to go beyond? I think that if he had dared to go beyond earlier, he would still be prime minister. He correctly assessed the protest as political. He is right to say that this is a sanction of the arrogance of the government, but whose arrogance - it is not his, Rosen Zhelyazkov did not behave arrogantly, on the contrary - all the time he behaved reservedly, even withdrawn at times, others behaved arrogantly - others failed this government. They were in the parliament, in front of his elevator every day and Mr. Zhelyazkov is embarrassed to mention their names. But the protest knows them and it will be realized again with even greater force if this arrogance continues to rule", he commented.

When Zhelyazkov agreed to become prime minister, he knew what role was assigned to him, Zarkov was categorical and added:

"He is making a deal with his leaders - Borisov and Peevski. /.../ He comes to power without having power.

According to the former MP, the big problem of Bulgarian politicians is that they underestimate the intelligence of the people. Citizens see who is the real holder of power and from whom to seek accountability, he emphasized in an interview for the program "Predi visi".

"The big question before the political forces that will now run for elections will be - will they be able to name the obvious - which is that there is a critical mass of the Bulgarian people, active and strong enough to oppose the absolute mafia-style takeover of the state, which has a personal and party dimension. If they read this sign correctly, then the next configuration will not include those who embody this type of behavior. However, if they decide that they will be able to play the card of the only possible thing again - stability against chaos, which we have already lost, we will face new months of political agony, which will end in this way again," Krum Zarkov outlined the possible scenarios.

According to him, it will be important how Boyko Borisov will position himself in the election campaign and how he will read past events. If he continues to defend the government's achievements for the people, he will suffer negative consequences, he believes. In his words, the leadership in GERB is total and unambiguous.

PP-DB must respond to two major challenges - the memory of their cooperation in the assembly, as well as whether they will manage to impose the idea and problems surrounding the rule of law and justice at the center of the campaign, the former acting Minister of Justice also noted. According to him, this will be difficult for them, but it is important for their success.

"The need for justice is irrevocable. The issue that is shaking our country is not just about who is the prosecutor general, but affects every aspect of a person's life. This issue will not be canceled and will have to be resolved. The only remaining issue is how long it will take us as a society to muster the courage to face the problem and solve it qualitatively," Zarkov was categorical.

According to him, the problem is not in the elections or in how people vote, but in the inability of the candidates to understand and fulfill the task set for them. "The problem is in the inability of the parties to run honestly and honorably in elections and then in government. They don't do it for several reasons, and incompetence is the last of them," he explained and added:

"No one walks into a minister's office and tells him "Now we're going to do a scam". It's always packaged "for the people". The ministers, the ones who are weaker, understand what's going on, but they feel that it's better to comply than to oppose, because their careers will be longer, and they can also be more successful".

According to Krum Zarkov, the priority should be the rule of law and unraveling the networks of influence. "We need to elect people who will commit to clarifying all these affairs in a short time and revealing those involved in them. Such a process in itself will indicate the next steps, including regulatory changes, if any are required. Illuminating and terminating these networks is the only path to some realistic change," he believes. According to him, Rumen Radev can be useful on this path as a politician.

This depends only on us, Zarkov reminded.
