Political scientist: Radev does not have time to register a party

He will participate in the elections with a coalition, said Dimitar Ganev

Rumen Radev does not have time to register a party. He will probably resort to something that has been done before - several parties form a coalition and this is the formation with which the president will run in the elections. This is what political scientist from “Trend” Dimitar Ganev predicts in “Interview in NOVA News”.

He explained that from now on the constitutional procedure will be led by Iliyana Yotova. It will begin with consultations with the political forces for nominations for caretaker prime minister. The possible options are either Andrey Gyurov or a person associated with the “status quo”, said the political scientist. Two months after the prime minister is appointed, parliamentary elections will be held, he explained.

“Radev chose to resign now in order not to participate in the process of forming a caretaker cabinet and electing a caretaker prime minister”, Ganev also commented. He pointed out that the logic of these actions is for the head of state to distance himself from the caretaker cabinet in order to avoid accusations that he appointed someone to conduct the elections in which he will participate.

Sociologist Andrey Rachev said that it is good that Rumen Radev did not mix up the resignation and the announcement of a party. According to him, how the president will enter politics will become clear after the Constitutional Court confirms his resignation and Iliyana Yotova takes office.

According to Raichev, Radev can “fill the BSP niche”, the second option – to make a moderately patriotic formation, assuming that the latter is more possible.

Ganev expressed the opinion that Radev will try to present himself as a legitimate alternative to everything that has accumulated as negatives regarding the status quo.

When asked who Radev's voters would be, Ganev believes that the largest reserve is in the "party of non-voters - between 800 thousand and 1 million in the last year and a half".

According to Raichev, Rumen Radev can build a bridge to the US and participate in European politics. Ganev agreed, but added that this also carries a risk regarding Brussels' attitude towards his possible future actions.
