For four months now, we have been waiting for Mayor Terziev in the Sofia Municipal Council to present us with a plan to deal with the garbage crisis. The waste management system is assigned to the mayor, so we expected from him a clear plan and clear actions during these months in the most stressed areas on how he will alleviate the situation of the people. This was said by the chairman of the BSP-Sofia City Council and the "BSP for Bulgaria" group in the Sofia Municipal Council, Ivan Takov, in the program "Metronome" on Radio "Focus".

"The situation was irretrievably and shamelessly let down by the mayor and his administration, and at the moment the solution will be slow and painful, whatever it is. The only thing we heard from him at the over 4-hour meeting of the Municipal Council about garbage, when we asked again what the plan was for dealing with the crisis, he said that "it was very nice", which you can answer for yourself what the attitude is and where we are going," Takov said, emphasizing that the Municipal Council has always tried to support the mayor in his work to overcome the garbage crisis, the resolution of which will cost millions.

According to policy, the solution to dealing with the crisis can be only one – the municipal enterprise and company to take over the cleanliness of the entire city. "Otherwise, we will continue to argue in the coming years about who are the good guys, who are the bad guys, who is the mafia," said Takov, according to whom the mayor's explanations for fighting the mafia become untenable in the face of the threat of blocking the capital due to the obvious failure to deal with garbage and snow removal in the city.

Takov is categorical that the municipal company "Toplofikatsiya Sofia" must be developed and modernized, and not be given out to a concession. He reminded that back in 2019, a consensus was reached for its modernization through external management, which would bring investments into "Toplofikatsiya", and according to him, if this had happened then, we would already have a modern company with a much more serious replacement of the heating pipes, which are 30-40 years old and more. "We urgently need to think about an option in which serious investments can be made, much-needed cogeneration can be made, and a serious replacement of heating pipes can be started. Otherwise, every winter we will be talking about problems with heat supply in certain areas. At the moment, things are simply being patched up," explained the municipal councilor.

"The failure to vote on the state budget also leads to the impossibility of voting on the municipal budget for 2026, which is a very serious problem for the transport system in Sofia," Takov also reminded.

"We also took Mayor Terziev to the National Assembly at the invitation of the Transport Committee to look for options to provide additional state funding for Sofia, otherwise things could really become very difficult in this area," he said.
