Yovo Nikolov: Scanners only solve the problem with confused ballots

Closing the CPC does not solve any problem. Bulgaria is deprived of an anti-corruption body. Thanks to the fact that our politicians do not want to have such a body to investigate them, Brussels stopped us from receiving 720 million euros from the Public Prosecutor's Office. This was stated by journalist Yovo Nikolov to bTV.

Former Minister of Justice Anton Stankov commented: “The CPC was created as a bypass for the prosecutor's office, because the only constitutionally designated anti-corruption body is the prosecutor's office. If it does its job, we will not need other bodies. But we are in a collapse - we cannot elect a new Supreme Judicial Council, a new prosecutor general. The mess is huge and the CPC is a crumb on the table. The CPC has not done any work.“

In his words, everything comes down to the political struggle to control the judiciary, which is a pity, because it should be independent.

Nikolov is of the opinion that the fact that there are two different thoughts about the CPC shows two different influences in the authorities.

“Borisov and Peevski will agree on what exactly they want to do with the CPC. The whole story is disgusting - we comment on how things should happen, and things happen the way they decide“, the journalist added.

Stankov said that he wanted to fix the judicial system while he was Minister of Justice, but could not: “The issue is not about leadership, but about maturation, about consensus. At the moment, we see that some of the political forces have no interest in a reformed justice system.“

He commented on what is coming in the early parliamentary elections: “President Radev is in debt, because in his last statement he made a request for a new social contract. You cannot enter the political arena with such a request and not keep your promise. We have serious prerequisites for creating a new national round table.“

“It is necessary to create an anti-corruption coalition that will sweep away the ruling party, because they want to steal the upcoming elections with the changes to the Electoral Code. They stay up until 4:15 in the morning, inventing all kinds of nonsense, just to re-enter parliament and block the young generation that wants to vote. For these things to be voted on in the middle of the night, then something is not right. They brought them sandwiches, just to get their ideas across," said Yovo Nikolov.

He drew attention to the fact that the ITN wants to use the 2021 census, when 85% of the population was counted, for the electoral lists, according to him, this gives the opportunity to add to the lists, and generation Z was not able to vote at that time: "The maximum is being done to make the electoral process more difficult for young voters."

“The scanners only solve the problem of confused ballots. The same will happen as in the previous elections - 550,000 invalid elections. A country like Montenegro is like that," the journalist added.
