The key to the participation of "Save Sofia" in national elections will be whether they can offer anything. Internal consultations and external talks are underway in the field of anti-corruption policy and it will depend on this whether an agreement will be reached. The focus for the formation remains the local elections in 2027. This was explained to the Bulgarian National Radio by the leader of "Save Sofia" and municipal councilor Boris Bonev and added that the red lines are Borisov, Peevski, corruption and the geostrategic path of Bulgaria.
"It is inevitable that we will participate in national elections at some point, since we are knocking on a closed door in parliament", he pointed out.
"Our coalition, along with Mayor Vasil Terziev, has failed to fulfill the election promises he made in several very key sectors, one of which is to carry out a complete revision of GERB's governance", reports Boris Bonev and pointed out this as one of the reasons for leaving the coalition with PP-DB. According to him, "the old schemes" have not been shown publicly and "there continue to be people in the Municipality who are absolute party appointees of GERB".
There is a lack of communication between the district mayors and the capital mayor. There, communication is broken, with exceptions on individual topics. Information is not given and is hidden, commented Boris Bonev.
"Currently, the Sofia Municipality is a closed fortress of information. "Save Sofia" is not waging war with Vasil Terziev, Bonev assured.
For a year and a half until the crisis, the Sofia Municipality has not made any efforts to strengthen the municipal capacity, and now "the fire has grown, the house is burning", believes Boris Bonev.
"The Sofia Mayor and the Sofia Municipality dramatically, scandalously, almost criminally delayed the launch of the new public procurements. They were launched at the Public Procurement Agency for an opinion 10 days before the contracts expired. For comparison - the previous mayor of Sofia, who also categorically did not cope with this task, launched them a year, or even a year and a half earlier. An order for toilet paper is even being appealed. For someone to think that an order for 700-800 million leva for cleaning will not be appealed means that they do not know where they are. He (Vasil Terziev – ed. note) was warned that this order should be released. We warned him. He kept the coalition parties in the dark about the progress of the process for preparing these contracts. These orders were fatally delayed. The argument "the state is hindering me because the agency delayed my opinion" is absolute manipulation", said Bonev.
"The mayor himself initially spoke about fighting the mafia, one of his last statements was: "if everyone is mafia, who will clean up". Obviously his position has changed,", expressed Bonev. According to him, half of Sofia is currently given to companies related to "Titan", and the owners of "Titan" are people with nicknames.
"The annexes to the annexes that we were supposed to receive are until a public procurement is held and a contract is signed. The deadline for something like this is a year and a half. This means that by the end of this term, the "Titan" company will most likely continue to clean up in some of the zones," he also commented.
