Such a comment was made by the chairman of “We Continue the Change“ Assen Vassilev in connection with the decision of the government in resignation to include our country in the so-called. President Donald Trump's Peace Council, in which the only EU member states are Bulgaria and Hungary.
„Backed into a corner, next to the poorest country in the EU - Hungary. If for Borisov this means being in the heart of Europe, he is clearly seriously mistaken“, added Vassilev, quoted by novini.bg.
When Bulgaria is backed into a corner next to Hungary, it means that we have interrupted the dialogue with our European partners. This will lead to difficulties for Bulgarian business to operate in the largest market in the European Union and it will be difficult for us to defend the pan-European position on a global scale, the PP leader explained.
He reminded that this decision was made by a government in resignation, which makes it illegitimate.
„The reason why we were not accepted for 15 years in Schengen and for as many more in the eurozone is precisely this kind of accommodating behavior, sitting on both chairs and finally falling to the ground; bowing to the stronger and trying to flatter everyone. There is no way they will respect us if we do not respect ourselves and do not have clear positions“, added Assen Vassilev to reporters in parliament.
This policy of condescension, of pleasing everyone – everyone must stop. Bulgaria must take a clear position that we are together with Europe, stressed Vassilev.
According to him, such an important decision as our joining the Peace Council should have been at least publicly discussed, and not taken “secretly“ and not even announced on the website of the Council of Ministers.
“This decision puts Bulgaria in a corner of the European Union, next to Hungary. We have seen where this behavior of Hungary has led it. Bulgaria must first form its national position before dealing with such cases as Gaza or Greenland. Because at the moment it turns out that we are playing against the union of which we have chosen to be a part“, the PP-DB MP noted.
In conclusion of his statement, Assen Vassilev accused GERB and Boyko Borisov of placing our country among the poorest countries in the EU – Hungary, and Belarus.
And to all other former republics of the Soviet Union. Apparently GERB is now Citizens for the Eurasian Development of Bulgaria, not for European Development, concluded Vassilev.
