If the Charter of the Peace Council is what leaked to the media, this means that something like a quasi-UN is being created for Donald Trump's personal use.
This was told to the Bulgarian National Radio by diplomat and former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lyubomir Kyuchukov, director of the Institute of Economics and International Relations.
"What is being created has nothing to do with the UN Security Council Resolution of November 2025. Because the UN regulates the creation of a Peace Council - as a body, an interim administration of Gaza - with a mandate until December 31, 2027. What Trump is creating is an organization, not a body, with a mandate for the whole world, not for Gaza, with an unlimited time horizon for action, as he determines the participants, the conditions for work, and has the right to veto all decisions".
The diplomat emphasized that even in the Charter of the Peace Council it is written by name that Donald Trump is its chairman, "which is typical of a corporate founding document, but not of a diplomatic agreement between states".
The resigned government of Bulgaria does not seem to have a clear idea of what exactly we are joining, believes Lyubomir Kyuchukov, "while all of Europe demonstrates a restrained attitude towards Trump's invitation":
"The explanation of Rosen Zhelyazkov and Georg Georgiev that it is about Gaza, circumvents the truth. The Charter does not mention Gaza. The argument that we have to do it because of the election of Nikolay Mladenov as High Representative completely replaces normal political logic - no one's personal appointment can be placed above the interests of the state.
He pointed out that Bulgaria has hidden behind the pan-European positions on Greenland and the events in Venezuela and expressed interest in how the Bulgarian position will be explained by the outgoing Prime Minister Zhelyazkov this evening at the EU Council.
"This is about internal political conjuncture, which is taken into account. Secondly - there was pressure from the US, because they are looking for a number of signatory countries, and from our side this was justified by the appointment of Nikolay Mladenov.
