Kristalina Georgieva, Nikolay Mladenov, Dimitar Radev - these established personalities have been discussed in the narrow circle around GERB leader Boyko Borisov as possible candidates for future president, Epicenter has learned. bg

Borisov's choice fell on Kristalina Georgieva for one important reason - to pit a woman against a woman, considering that it is almost certain that Iliyana Yotova will run for president in the upcoming presidential elections in October this year.

Kristalina Georgieva was the most likely candidate of GERB because she no longer has any international commitments - her last term as head of the IMF is expiring.

Nikolai Mladenov is certain to refuse Borisov's offer because he currently holds one of the highest-ranking international positions as President Trump's high representative for Gaza in his Peace Council.

And top banker Dimitar Radev is unlikely to leave the respected post of governor of the Bulgarian National Bank in a political battle that is not clear that it will be successful.

Iliyana Yotova has every chance of winning the presidential battle, as the upcoming year will provide people's ability to convince themselves of her qualities as a head of state.

Kristalina Georgieva's chances are far more modest, because she is not so recognizable in the country, unless Borisov convinces the right-wing spectrum of the PP-DB to support her. Then we would observe a real competition between two high-ranking ladies, with enormous influence at home and abroad, for the highest position in the country.

In this intrigue, it is very important what position Rumen Radev will take. According to some in the BSP, he will categorically support Yotova and this was even announced in some of the red circles. According to others, however, Radev has not yet announced his position on the presidential race. His sources leaked the name of the constitutionalist Prof. Atanas Semov as an option for Radev to play with this candidacy in the presidential vote.
