Nikolay Denkov: Radev will shift the political scene, but he is not a new messiah

Denkov rejected the allegations of discord between PP and DB because of Radev

“Rumen Radev's entry into active politics will certainly shift the political scene“, believes Nikolay Denkov from “We Continue the Change“. According to him, some of the small parties will disappear, and others will melt away, but Radev is not a new factor.

“Radev is not new – he has been on the political scene for nine years. This is not the new messiah who comes from outside. I don't think the 2021 scenario with Slavi Trifonov will be repeated, when a person with no political experience appears," Denkov said in the studio of "In Focus."

According to him, the PP entered politics then because Trifonov turned out to be a "false messiah and a false savior."

"Whether Radev will turn out to be a false savior depends on him. At the moment, there is a lack of clarity about what exactly he wants and what positions he holds," Denkov stressed.

He also commented on the PP's participation in the so-called "assembly," defining it as a mistake of party interest, but useful for the country.

"The assembly was the train that brought us into the eurozone and Schengen. We showed that incomes can increase without increasing taxes. We sacrificed part of our support to move Bulgaria forward“, he said.

On the topic of relations between the PP and “Democratic Bulgaria“ Denkov rejected allegations of discord because of Radev.

“If there is a difference, it is in the emotion. Both the PP and the DB have put common priorities first. I don't think the question of whether Radev can split the PP–DB at all stands. There are a lot of intrigues“, he commented.

Denkov indicated that the possible motto of the campaign could be “Strong Bulgaria in a Strong Europe“.

He also commented on the internal party processes, admitting that the party is losing “a valuable person“ with the withdrawal of Lena Borislavova.

„She is one of the brightest faces in Bulgarian politics. This is her decision and I prefer that she explain it herself“, said Denkov.

On foreign policy issues, he stressed that Bulgaria must act in sync with Europe.

„The United States is a strategic partner of Bulgaria, but when it comes to key issues, they must be discussed with Europe. Bulgaria cannot be strong if it stands in a corner only with Orban“, said Denkov.
