Charges have been brought against the driver who caused the accident that killed the former mayor of Cherven Bryag

The man has been detained for 72 hours

The Pleven District Prosecutor's Office has brought charges against the 46-year-old truck driver who caused the accident on the road between Telish and Gorni Dubnik. The 58-year-old doctor and former mayor of Cherven Bryag, Tsvetan Kostadinov, died in the incident on Thursday.

During the inspection conducted by the prosecutor, it was found that the truck was moving at a speed that did not comply with the road conditions. After a left turn, the driver, with the initials D.D., lost control of the heavy truck, entered the oncoming lane and hit the car driven by Kostadinov head-on. As a result of the injuries received, the former mayor died.

The inspection also indicates that black ice had formed on the road.

The driver of the truck was tested for alcohol and drugs. The samples were negative. The man was detained for a period of 72 hours, and his driver's license was revoked.

The prosecutor's office is about to file a request with the Pleven District Court to take a preventive measure against the accused "detention in custody".
