The logical choice for acting prime minister in view of holding fair elections is Andrey Gyurov. This was announced today, February 1, 2026, by the co-chairman of "Yes, Bulgaria" Ivaylo Mirchev in Sofia. According to him, the deputy governor of the Bulgarian National Bank is the only figure on the president's list who is not connected to the leader of "DPS - New Beginning" Delyan Peevski.
"From what we have seen in recent days from the potential candidates, it is very hard for me to believe that there are others who are distant from Peevski," Ivaylo Mirchev told journalists, BTA reported. He stressed that the task of his formation is to unite the protest vote around a clear program.
Mirchev's statement comes hours after Vice President Iliana Yotova announced in the village of Delchevo that official consultations with the parliamentaryly represented parties will begin on Thursday, February 3. Iliana Yotova emphasized that the next caretaker prime minister must meet the citizens' expectations for professionalism and distance from party interests.
The presidential institution has already completed meetings with the individuals from the so-called "house book", with Iliana Yotova noting that the choice is severely limited by the recent changes to the Constitution.
Ivaylo Mirchev made his political commentary during the celebrations for the Day of Appreciation and Tribute to the Victims of the Communist Regime. He joined the worship in front of the Memorial in the center of the capital, where other leading political figures were also present, including the Speaker of the National Assembly Raya Nazaryan.
