The head of the Sofia prison proposes that Brendo be released early

The arguments are that Banev has served more than half of his sentence and has sufficient evidence of reform, taking into account lasting and positive change

Brendo, who is serving a sentence of 10 and a half years in the Sofia prison, should be released early, reported "Eurocom".

The Sofia City Court, which will rule as the first instance on the proposal, confirmed that there is such a case, initiated by the head of the prison. The arguments are that Banev has served more than half of his sentence and has sufficient evidence of reform, taking into account lasting and positive change. Evelin Banev-Brendo surrendered voluntarily early in the morning of June 24, 2024. At that time, a lawyer was with him.

Brendo was declared an international wanted person because he was convicted of money laundering from drug trafficking, with convictions in Romania, Bulgaria and Italy.

Evelin Banev-Brendo has been officially wanted since May 10, 2018, after two weeks earlier the Supreme Court of Cassation in Bulgaria finally found him guilty of money laundering from drug trafficking and sentenced him to 6 years in prison. However, Brendo had already fled. Before that, in Romania he was found guilty of drug trafficking with a sentence of 10 years. Then he was sentenced to 20 years in prison in Italy in the "Cocaine Kings" case, again for the same crime.

In 2012, Brendo was arrested in our country and sent to Milan, but he was returned because his first case, then still pending, was in Bulgaria. It ended last of the three. While waiting for the decision, Brendo was on bail and banned from leaving the country. This did not prevent him from escaping and starting his 6-year search.
