The truth is that we do not look very good, and that is why I and other socialists wanted to hold a Congress. This can give us some air and return to the elections with a new charge, said in the program "Osche ut djenja" on BNT, BSP Deputy Chairman Ivan Takov, quoted by novini.bg.
There are no internal battles in the BSP, there were two different theses - whether the Congress should be before or after the elections. This question received its unequivocal answer from the National Council, he added.
He also commented on the participation of the "reds" in the "Zhelyazkov" cabinet.

BSP-United Left cannot stand and watch indifferently as the state collapses. We made efforts as a responsible party, we acted politically meaningfully at that moment. It is easy to criticize now. We owe an apology to our voters for the work we were unable to do, but we did not have enough time. I do not think that we made any serious mistakes, although not everything was positive. A large part of the things that were planned to be done by the government, such as maternity leave, were in the second budget, we apologize that it was not adopted, Takov pointed out.

In response to a question, he noted that he did not know who wanted the resignation of BSP leader Atanas Zafirov: "The resignation is a personal act. The National Council made a decision and there is simply an item on the agenda of the Congress for the election of a chairman".
At the Congress, we should not talk about entering or not entering parliament, but about restoring trust in the party. I already see such energy in the party and I am sure that it will we will achieve a good result, said the socialist.

The chairman is first among equals. I have many nominations from the country, for which I am grateful, but they are the effect of my 20-year work in the party. There are many worthy candidates in this campaign and I can work with each of them. I expect to hear their views on the development of the party at the Congress. The new chairman must necessarily unite the party. We have quality people and the BSP will emerge more united from this Congress, assured Ivan Takov.

Asked whether the BSP would nominate Iliana Yotova for president, he said: "This topic will be discussed when the time comes. Ms. Yotova, of course, is a natural nomination for us, but this is decided by the collective bodies of the party. She has been our member for many years. I believe that she would be a very suitable candidate for us".
