If the Ministry of Interior is left to work calmly in such a complex case, in which there are many hypotheses, it will do its job. This was said by the outgoing Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov to Bulgarian journalists in Brussels in connection with the "Petrohan" case.
The public perception of this case has a rich palette of strong emotions that excite every Bulgarian - there is anger, there is indignation, there is fear, there is concern. There are questions that excite society, families, schools, and all young and old people. This is a great national drama because it affects everyone, without being able to answer complex socio-psychological questions, without being able to ignore current events, the election campaign, the political debate, not to politicize this topic, said Zhelyazkov.
We must know that the victims and their relatives have the right to have their honor and dignity preserved, and even for those who are no longer among us, the presumption of innocence should apply. The important thing in this situation is to collect evidence of all relevant facts and then state the legal facts, is there guilt, who is guilty and what the punishment should be. The society very quickly wants to receive answers to these questions and for justice to be served. We must let the institutions work calmly, because the constant pressure can lead to mistakes being made in order to give quick answers. At the moment, we have no right to politically impose impressions, suggestions, and allegations because this is not fair and does not reflect on the understanding that we are a state governed by the rule of law, the resigned Prime Minister pointed out.
When asked if SANS is connected to the case, he noted: "I cannot answer you, because from a purely political perspective it is not right for us to be interested in the investigation and its progress. The politicians did what they could - daily allegations, speculations, suggestions, and everything is for the purpose of a political skirmish in the election campaign. This can neither help establish the objective truth, nor can it make the expert examinations happen faster. Experts should work only in a calm environment, based only on their professional, and not politically influenced, experience.
Rosen Zhelyazkov also commented on the choice of Andrey Gyurov as caretaker prime minister.
"The caretaker prime minister - according to the previously announced criteria, must meet at least two conditions. First - to be able to organize fair and transparent elections, which implies being equally distant from all political forces. And second - to have the necessary administrative experience, said Zhelyazkov.
My personal assessment of Andrey Gyurov is that he is a well-mannered and erudite colleague, whom I know from three parliaments, in which he was chairman of the parliamentary group of "We continue the change". The composition of the cabinet will become clear when we learn the names next week. The caretaker cabinet faces serious challenges. Our government will do everything possible not only to ensure a smooth transfer of power, but also to leave most of the problems resolved in this complex situation, in which there is no adopted budget and political tension is high, the outgoing prime minister said.
