The "Petrohan" case shows that certain institutions are used for political purposes. The constitutional order is greatly threatened, since we have cases like "Pepi Euroto" and "Martin Notary". The fact is that a week later the prosecutor's office came out and said that they found bodies with wounds consistent with suicide, or they don't know what they are doing. It takes 5 minutes when you go to the scene to find out such a thing. The assessment of the actions is not good, commented the former director of the National Investigation Service Boyko Naidenov.
You see that these institutions are self-sufficient and there is no call for change, which is now mandatory, in my opinion, he said.
When you have three people who have been killed or committed suicide, they have reported to the Prosecutor General. Discussion of victims and injured persons should not be allowed. The prosecutor's office was obliged to provide data on the case. If we had adequate measures from the police, perhaps we would have saved the lives of the two boys, Naydenov admitted.
The materials on key cases do not reach not only the National Assembly, but seemingly anywhere. What is currently being spread is on the backs of the victims and their relatives. Why did the prosecutor's office not investigate the report of child abuse?, Bregov added. Since Pepi Euroto moves freely between Bulgaria and Serbia, why shouldn't a camper move? Obviously, one of the teams was assisted by the services, he pointed out.
In this case, there was nothing to hide. The case should have been announced earlier and assistance sought. A lot could have been done. Leaking investigative information is abuse. I personally have not encountered such a case – someone has disclosed an investigative secret, Boyko Naydenov commented on the dissemination of materials related to the investigation.
Ivan Bregov called for attention to be directed to the Inspectorate of the Supreme Judicial Council to see if anyone is obstructing the prosecutor's investigation into the "Petrohan" case. Trust is earned through responsibility, he specified.
Naydenov explained that even when an agent of the services is being led, he should not commit a crime. If this is established - you submit information to the prosecutor's office.
The Anti-Corruption Commission is an administrative measure for investigation, it does not replace the functions of the investigative bodies. Its work can be done by a computer, said the head of the Law Program of the Institute for Market Economics.
Naydenov added that until the monopoly of the prosecutor's office is eliminated, the problem will not be solved.
In connection with the information about joint exercises between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the rangers from “Petrohan“ Naydenov said: “The role of the state is to establish whether certain people are engaged in criminal activity or not. If there was a signal in 2022, the investigation should have been brought to an end. This signal is checked, and not forwarded to other prosecutor's offices. Now this question must be asked“.
Ivan Bregov added that the new acting minister will have the opportunity to initiate an inspection.
