Delyan Dobrev leaves GERB

The politician was part of the party for almost two decades

The Chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee in the last National Assembly, Delyan Dobrev, is leaving GERB. bTV learned this from unofficial information. The news has not yet been confirmed by him personally.

Delyan Dobrev is a Bulgarian economist and politician from GERB, a long-time member of parliament and former Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism in the government of Boyko Borissov (2012-2013).

He was elected as a member of parliament for the first time in the 41st National Assembly in 2009 as a member of GERB and has since been consistently part of the party's parliamentary group.

Dobrev has an education in economics in the USA and Bulgaria and specializations in London, and has worked in consulting companies and European projects.

Over the years, he has held key positions in parliament, including chairman of the Energy Committee and member of the Budget and Finance Committee. In 2017, he was involved in the “Kumgate“ scandal, but subsequently continued his political career. In 2024, he was nominated as Minister of Energy in the GERB-SDF draft cabinet.
