The sixth unit of the “Kozloduy” NPP is to be shut down to replace a defective safety membrane device on a steam superheater separator of the turbine, which is located in the conventional, non-nuclear part of the unit.
This was announced on Saturday by the company on its official website. There is no release of pollutants into the environment, the NPP added.
The elements (membrane and frangible shaft) of the device that is to be installed are made of newly delivered materials, similar to the original ones. After the planned repair activities, Unit 6 will be included in the country's energy system. The fifth unit is operating on schedule, the nuclear power plant added.
On December 24, last year, the sixth unit was put into parallel operation after being shut down due to a failure of a protective membrane device on the turbine superheater separator.
