A protest against the poisoning of stray animals will be held from 2 p.m. today in Velingrad.

The demonstration is organized in front of the Velingrad Municipality by the "Together for the Animals" foundation. According to animal rights activists, the poisoning of stray dogs is a regular practice in the city, instead of implementing effective measures to control their population.

The organizers signal that a few days ago there was another case of mass poisoning, including in the center of the settlement. In this regard, they are making requests to the Mayor of Velingrad Kostadin Koev, the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Pazardzhik, as well as the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Pazardzhik.

"We have three specific requests. The first is the creation of a municipal castration center. At the moment, there is no such center in Velingrad and we believe that the creation of a permanent municipal castration center will be a sustainable mechanism for population control.

The second thing we want to do is control over the registration and chipping of domestic dogs. We believe that this will limit the abandonment of animals, track their ownership and actually be able to hold them accountable.

The third thing is video surveillance. Are the cameras working in the central part of the city? Have the recordings from the period February 7-9 been seized? How long will it take to provide information about the results,“ asked Misher Rueva, who is a volunteer at the "Together for the Animals" foundation.
