69% of young doctors from the Medical University - Sofia remain in Bulgaria after graduation. The most desired specialty among them is "Anesthesiology and Resuscitation", according to the results of the traditional survey among graduates of the Class of 2025.

Their graduation ceremony will take place on February 17 in Hall 1 of the National Palace of Culture.

Nearly 11% of graduates have chosen anesthesiology and resuscitation, which is more than a 7% increase compared to the previous class. The interest in the specialty has its explanation - during the Covid-19 pandemic, many students started working as volunteers in intensive care clinics, and later as caregivers, and there they found their calling.

In second place, young doctors indicated pediatrics, and in third - surgery. Followed by ophthalmology, endocrinology and dermatology. 96% of graduates have already chosen a specific specialty. 85% of them choose to work as doctors in clinical practice. The number of those wishing to become general practitioners is increasing significantly - 11% compared to 7.7% in the previous class.

The number of those wishing to work in the United States is increasing by 10%, which is an increase of 5% compared to a year earlier. At the same time, those who chose a European Union country for their realization decreased by 3% to nearly 78%.

Agricultural workers receive 1,000 leva less than the average salary for the country - this is indicated by the data of the National Statistical Institute. The average gross salary in agriculture, forestry and fisheries in the last quarter of 2025 is 1,770 leva.

The average salary in the agricultural sector is in penultimate place in the graph of economic activities, with a lower declared salary only for those employed in “Restaurant and hotel management“, whose average salary is 1,617 leva, according to national statistics. Those engaged in agriculture remain over 4 thousand leva behind those working in the telecommunications sector - who once again this quarter are at the top with the highest average gross monthly salary - 5,739 leva.

Probably the traditionally low pay also explains the fact that in the last quarter of last year, the number of people employed in agriculture, forestry and fisheries decreased by 5% compared to the previous three months and amounted to nearly 62 thousand people.

For years, the agricultural sector has had a problem with the shortage of labor and the aging of those employed in agriculture, and since seasonal employment is increasingly relied on, and the Bulgarian labor force is not enough, many farms are already actively importing workers from countries such as Nepal, India and the Philippines, who are successfully adapting to local conditions.
