Prof. Dr. Kamen Plochev, MD, PhD – long-time head of the Clinic of Infectious Diseases at the Military Medical Academy (MMA) has passed away. The sad news was announced by the medical institution.
Prof. Plochev dedicated nearly 50 years to the MMA, where he began his professional career in 1976. Colleagues and patients describe him as a doctor with exceptional authority, dedication and humanity.
As an infectious disease specialist, he was on the front line of all serious health challenges – from seasonal infections to threats such as Ebola and COVID-19.
His contribution to Bulgarian medicine, international cooperation and the development of infectious disease science is widely recognized and distinguished. His greatest recognition, however, remains the words of gratitude from the patients he helped until his last day. Despite his deteriorating health, he did not interrupt his professional activity and remained dedicated to the cause of saving human lives.
“Professor Kamen Plocev will remain in our minds as an honest and dignified person, a professional without ostentation, loyal to his team and a mentor to generations of physicians“, the condolence address reads.
The management and staff of the Military Medical Academy expressed their most sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.
May his memory be bright!
