At a meeting with the previous GERB ministers, the party leader Boyko Borisov announced that Andrey Gyurov officially asked GERB to keep Atanas Zapryanov as defense minister in the caretaker government. GERB has agreed and believes that this is a statesmanlike decision, reports BNT.
Boyko Borisov thanked Rosen Zhelyazkov and the GERB ministers in the government so far for the work they have done in the past year. He specifically highlighted the eurozone, Schengen and the renegotiated funds under the PPA.
Internationally, he believes that far-sighted long-term decisions have been made, such as participation in Trump's Peace Council and support for Ukraine. Borisov expressed regret that their colleagues from the center-right space, instead of thanking them for taking on all the risk of accepting us into the eurozone, are constantly criticizing them. He admitted that they have also made mistakes from which they are learning.
„They packaged us with Peevski because of our support for the eurozone and the plan. But I think their sin is greater, because they and Peevski were making a Constitution, and we took support to enter the eurozone and Schengen.“, commented the GERB leader.
Borisov is pleased that when handing over power, the new and old ministers talked about continuity. He expects fair elections from the caretaker cabinet. He also commented on the appointment of Rumyana Bachvarova as head of Andrey Gyurov's cabinet. She held the same position in Borisov's first cabinet. “I always wish everyone I have worked with success, because we were one family, so I wish her success too. But for her this is a personal choice.“, he added.
Borisov announced that Andrey Gyurov had officially asked GERB to keep Atanas Zapryanov as military minister in the caretaker government. They agreed because they also believe this is a good decision in the tense international situation.
“I believe it was statesmanlike, since Minister Zapryanov has always been an expert with us. He has always been in defense as an expert for GERB and has behaved as such. That is why I think that GERB can take responsibility for Minister Zapryanov in this cabinet. It was officially requested, we have officially agreed.“, Borisov explained.
The GERB leader described as a huge oversight by the president and prime minister the appointment of Stoil Tsitselkov as deputy prime minister, who will be responsible for the fair conduct of the vote. “If what I read is true, that he is banned from serving for five years by the EC as an observer of elections in other countries, it is a very serious violation and a severe sanction. And to empower this very person to be responsible for the interior ministry, the justice ministry… I think that whatever the results of the elections, no one will accept the elections as fair with such a person. I don't even know what brains they had in mind to put him in.“, Borisov also commented.
He said that GERB's attention is already focused on the upcoming elections, which they will enter with their heads held high.
