Florida lawmakers have approved renaming Palm Beach International Airport after U.S. President Donald Trump, Reuters reported.

The 25-11 vote in the state Senate followed a 81-30 vote in the state House of Representatives a few days ago. Republican lawmakers largely supported the bill, while Democrats opposed renaming the airport.

“It is wrong and unfair that the Republican-controlled Florida Legislature has ignored the voices of Palm Beach County by passing a bill to rename the international airport without giving the county residents a real opportunity to participate,” said Lois Frankel, the Democratic congresswoman who represents West Palm Beach in the U.S. Congress.

The bill is headed to the desk of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican, who has not said whether he will sign it. The governor's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The White House declined to comment.

Trump, a native of New York, moved to Florida in 2019 to his Mar-a-Lago resort in West Palm Beach.

Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger will deliver the Democratic Party's response to President Donald Trump's annual State of the Union address next week, the Associated Press reported.

It comes just months after Spanberger won a landslide victory in the Virginia gubernatorial race, which had previously been held by a Republican.

The Democratic response will follow Trump's State of the Union address to Congress next Tuesday, giving the Democratic Party its most significant opportunity to present its counterargument.

Spangaerger, a three-term member of the House of the U.S. Congress and a former Central Intelligence Agency employee, earlier this year became the first female governor of Virginia. She won the election by double digits, running a campaign focused on providing affordable housing and reducing the cost of living for American families.
