A French soldier has died after being accidentally shot in the head during a drunken night with other soldiers at a barracks near Paris, the Paris prosecutor's office said on Monday, as quoted by Reuters.

The deceased soldier has been identified as Alexandre Lancben.

The head of the French armed forces in the Paris region, Loic Mizon, confirmed Lancben's death in a post on the „Ex“ platform today.

The Paris prosecutor's office said the incident occurred on February 14 at the „Percy“ Military Teaching Hospital in Clamart, near Paris.

Although alcohol consumption is prohibited on the barracks grounds, several soldiers obtained alcohol and drank throughout the evening. While the soldiers were playing a game intended to test the participants' reactions, a loaded gun went off, hitting Lankben in the head. He was taken to hospital but later died of his injuries.

Four soldiers have been arrested in connection with the incident.
