The prolonged and heavy rainfall, which reached nearly 50 liters per square meter, created several critical points on the territory of the Dimitrovgrad municipality, the municipal press center reported.
One is in the "Iztok" neighborhood, where the Merichlerska River overflowed its bed and flooded the low-lying parts of the neighborhood. There are about 20 houses where the water has reached and flooded the yards, and in about half of the properties it has entered the ground floors. The electricity supply to these properties has been stopped and the people from them have been evacuated as a precaution. They are with their relatives, and one family is prepared to be accommodated in municipal housing if necessary until the situation normalizes.
In two places on the road between the villages of Dobrich - Gorski Izvor, there are local overflows of water flowing from the fields. The mayor of the municipality Ivo Dimov has notified the Regional Road Administration - Haskovo and equipment will be sent there. A police patrol has also been directed to signal the dangerous zones for passing cars.
In the village of Stransko, the river level is critically high in the lower part of the settlement and there is a risk of overflow. The latest information is that the dam near the Stara Zagora village of Mihailovo has overflowed, and the situation may worsen.
So far, there are no people in distress in the municipality, no villages are without electricity, and all roads are passable. The situation is being monitored throughout the municipality, they assure us.
