The construction of a new primary school in the "Studentski Grad" neighborhood has officially started. The first sod was laid today at the intersection of "Dr. Yordan Yosifov" and "Prof. Hristo Danov" streets, with the event also attended by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Education and Science Lyubomir Yosifov. The Ministry of Education and Science participated both by providing the land and by providing funding in the amount of over 3.8 million euros under the state program for the construction and expansion of nurseries, kindergartens and schools. The remaining funds are provided by the Sofia Municipality.

The future municipal school will provide places for over 570 students, who will be distributed in 24 classes. With the implementation of the project, the state and the municipality respond to the long-standing need of one of the fastest developing metropolitan areas to have a new school.

The Mayor of Sofia Vasil Terziev emphasized that the initiative is the result of joint efforts and good partnership between the local government and state institutions. For his part, the Mayor of the “Studentski“ district Petko Goranov noted that the project has gone through a number of difficulties, but today it is already in the implementation stage and there is no more important investment than that in education, in which children learn, play sports and develop.

The new building will have a spacious educational building and a large yard with sports areas. In addition to classrooms, a football field, combined volleyball and basketball courts, a running track, an outdoor gym, table tennis areas and recreation areas are planned. At least 20% of the terrain will be landscaped.

The event was also attended by the Chairman of the Sofia Municipal Council Tsvetomir Petrov, representatives of the municipal administration, teachers, principals, etc.
