The historical site of Petrova Niva has been turned into a logging area, the mayor of Malko Tarnovo Iliyan Yanchev wrote on his official Facebook page. He has published photos and videos showing trucks loaded with cut wood passing along the road to the area.
According to him, due to logging activities, the area and the road to it are seriously damaged, with deep ruts and destruction due to passing trucks.
He states that he does not accept a national shrine being treated as a temporary logging site and insists on an inspection and compensation for the damage at the expense of the responsible institutions.
The mayor also writes that he does not want written explanations from employees and insists that the Minister of Agriculture and Food personally engage with the case. He warns that access to Petrova Niva is being destroyed in front of everyone's eyes and expects quick action.
In his publication, Yanchev emphasizes that Petrova Niva is among the most sacred places in Bulgaria and the place where the Preobrazhensko Uprising was declared - a symbol of statehood and self-sacrifice, BTA points out.
