During the Easter Lent season, green salads are most in demand at the markets. The prices of lettuce have doubled on the market, reports Nova TV.

The prices of lettuce at the municipal market in Asenovgrad range from 77 cents to 1 euro per piece. Their price is twice as high compared to last year. Tomatoes cost more than 2.50 euros per kilogram, and cucumber prices are also high, news.bg reported.

Angel Panev is a greenhouse producer in the Plovdiv village of Cheshnegirovo. He has been growing lettuce and radishes for 40 years. This year he has planted 13 greenhouses. And although lettuce is not a capricious crop, its production costs have soared.

Panev says that the prices of seeds and fertilizers have increased by 100%. This winter he has only sown curly lettuce, because the regular straight one is less sought after on the market. This is because it is softer, more tender and tastier. A green salad of lettuce, onion, radish and cucumber costs about 3.14 euros.
