The Speaker of the National Assembly Raya Nazaryan announced in the plenary hall that the acting Minister of Defense Atanas Zapryanov has notified the parliament that he has issued orders authorizing the passage through the airspace and the stay on the territory of Bulgaria of allied and foreign armed forces and assets.
The notifications have been submitted to the Defense Committee.
The issued orders are in implementation of the Law on the Passage through and Stay on the Territory of the Republic of Bulgaria of Allied and Foreign Armed Forces (LPPTRBSChVS).
According to the law, the Minister of Defense has the authority to authorize the passage and residence of allied and foreign armed forces and assets both through the airspace and on the territory of the country. After the issuance of the orders, the law requires notification to the National Assembly, with the information being provided to the Defense Committee for oversight and transparency. The goal is for the presence of foreign military forces to be regulated and in accordance with national interests.
