“I am extremely worried about national security, because I see in our cabinet a desire to deceive not only the citizens, but also us, who are much more familiar than others with what is happening in the country and around the world.“ - this was stated by the chairman of “Vazrazhdane“ Kostadin Kostadinov during a briefing at the Council of Ministers after a meeting of the Security Council. According to him, he has no expectations from the meeting and remains very concerned about the way in which Bulgarian institutions approach national security issues.
Kostadinov pointed out that during the meeting, worrying signs of a lack of preparation and competence in the management of the “Security“ sector appeared. He gave an example of a statement by the Minister of Defense, which, according to him, raised serious doubts about the level of information in the country's leadership.
“There was one in particular interesting, not to say slightly comical element, in which the Minister of Defense confused Azerbaijan with Armenia. These are things that really create very serious concerns about the fact that currently national security is entrusted to people who cannot guarantee it in any way.“, he commented.
The chairman of “Vazrazhdane“ emphasized that the most serious danger, in his opinion, is the possibility of Bulgaria being drawn into a military conflict: “Alas, I have no guarantee that in the event of a possible escalation of military actions, the Bulgarian state leadership will not throw us into a military adventure.“
Kostadin Kostadinov explained that his concerns are also related to the information about the increased presence of military equipment and aircraft on the territory of the country: “Currently, there are American military aircraft at Sofia Airport, which have even increased in number. Minister Zapryanov says that this is a training exercise. There is no such training exercise. NATO systems have not stopped working, because they work 24 hours a day. They are not turned on only when there are military actions.“
According to him, the opposition is not provided with full information about the real situation, and decisions are made with limited access to data.
„Naturally, there is no way even to such a national security council to give us, who are so to speak the main opposition force, and all the others who are there, information that they would not want to come out. Of course, we have our own sources that give us much more alarming information.“
Kostadinov also recalled the contradictory actions of the government in recent days, which, according to him, show a lack of a clear and consistent position.
„In view of the last six days, in which the government changed its position four times, I will remind you that first at the hearing they explained that there was nothing to worry about, there were no military actions. Then it suddenly turned out that there were military actions. They immediately convened a National Security Council. Then at one point it turned out that more military planes, transport and refueling, had to come. And finally, six days later, they convened a second National Security Council.“
He also told journalists that yesterday it was stated that there were no new requests for planes, but later two more transport military planes arrived.
In conclusion, the chairman of “Vazrazhdane“ stated that in his opinion the country's national security was under threat and sent a political message to the ruling party: “Our concerns and our additional information are that Bulgaria's national security is under threat. And what I can tell you right now very clearly and categorically, I want you to take it into account and note it - – the only ones, who can currently guarantee both national security and the security, health and life of Bulgarian citizens, are we from “Vazrazhdane“.“
