Potential violations and mismanagement in the private secondary school "Kosmos", Gorna Malina municipality, caused the MP from "Vazrazhdane" Angel Yanchev to address a question to the acting Minister of Education and Science. The occasion is the case of the minor student Alexander from the "Petrohan" tragedy, enrolled in the school, who was subject to compulsory school education. Yanchev requested information on whether the Ministry intends to suspend the school's activities due to violations.

Following Angel Yanchev's question, it became clear that an inspection had been launched after the tragic incident with the student, covering the entire organizational and administrative-management activities of the director. A number of shortcomings were identified: lack of documentation for the organization and conduct of exams, absences of students who were not registered, as well as issuing documents for a completed grade without indisputable evidence.

The documents from the inspection have been submitted to the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office for assessment of possible legal violations and criminal liability. After the prosecutor's office's ruling, a decision will be made regarding the school's status and the possibility of deletion from the register of institutions.

At the same time, Angel Yanchev emphasized that the school continues to receive a significant state subsidy - over 1.1 million leva in 2025 - despite the violations found, and that the building provided to the school under concession by the Municipality of Gorna Malina remains in use by the private school. He called for the deregistration of “Kosmos“ and the suspension of state funds. Yanchev does not accept that “Kosmos“ can operate as a school with some kind of certificate from the Association of Cambridge Schools.
