Parliament elected Karina Karaivanova as Deputy Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank

101 MPs voted in support of her candidacy, 28 were "against", and 16 abstained.

The Parliament elected Karina Karaivanova as Deputy Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB), Head of the "Issue" Department, reports BTA. 101 MPs voted in support of her candidacy, 28 were "against", and 16 abstained. She then took the oath before the National Assembly.
Karaivanova was heard on Thursday by the parliamentary Committee on Budget and Finance. Her candidacy was presented today in the plenary hall by the Governor of the BNB, Dimitar Radev, who indicated that she possesses the necessary professional qualities and institutional experience to fulfill the responsibilities of Deputy Governor of the BNB and Head of the “Issue” Department.

“I am convinced that the proposed candidate will contribute to strengthening the institutional role of the BNB and the effective performance of its functions within the euro area“, he stated.
Karina Karaivanova is an established expert in the field of public finance and financial regulation, with over 20 years of experience in senior positions in the Bulgarian state administration and in international institutions.

She is a Master in Finance and Banking with a number of qualifications. Her professional experience includes 7 years of representation of our country on the Board of Directors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. She was the Chairperson of the Financial Supervision Commission, elected by the National Assembly in 2016. Prior to that - since 2012, she was Deputy Minister of Finance and represented Bulgaria in the governing bodies of the EIB, the EIF and the Black Sea Bank for Trade and Development.
