A protest in Northwestern Bulgaria is blocking the international highway E-79. The reason - the road surface resembles a lunar landscape due to the holes and even craters that have formed.
Cars break down there every day. There are also many serious road accidents, with the last fatality being a month ago.
The RIA explained that the route in the area has not been fundamentally repaired for 25 years. Such repairs are planned as soon as possible and are expected to be completed in the fall of 2027. The road is one of the main transport arteries, because it connects our country with Romania and Serbia.
Yordanka Todorova: "There are accidents every day. They dug up the asphalt right near the bridge, that's how it is - there's no money. They fine us for vignettes, "Civil Liability", and who tolerates sanctions because we wreck our cars?! We are just debtors without any rights."
Mariela Borisova: "It's just a nightmare, it's not a road. They want to kill us. You can't travel every day risking your life because there are potholes. The truck drivers are not to blame, the road is to blame, because trucks travel everywhere in the world and it's not such a nightmare as in Bulgaria. Again, where are our rulers and they will come in a few days to vote for them – criminals."
