CEC: Almost 1,500 women enter the battle for parliament against over 3,300 men

Yesterday, the draw was made, which determined the ballot numbers with which the parties and coalitions will participate in the vote. There are 10 coalitions and 14 parties

Work continues on the preparation and organization for the early parliamentary elections on April 19, 2026, at the moment everything is normal, the spokesperson for the Central Election Commission Rositsa Mateva said at a media briefing.

Yesterday, the draw was made, which determined the ballot numbers with which the parties and coalitions will participate in the vote. There are 10 coalitions and 14 parties. All of them have registered candidate lists in all electoral districts, there is also one independent candidate.

Men vs Women

"Candidates who are registered to participate in these elections across the country are 4786 according to the latest data. Of these, 1,439 are women, 3,347 are men, and there are a total of 1,019 candidates in two regions," Mateva pointed out.

Yesterday, the Central Election Commission deleted the registration of one candidate, which was made by two political forces in one electoral region - Haskovo, as well as three candidates who were registered by one political force, but in three electoral regions, in one case, and in four - in the other two cases.

Deadlines

Today, the deadline expires in which parties and coalitions still have the opportunity, upon application by a candidate who is registered, that he does not wish to participate in the elections and wishes to be deleted. Today, until 5:00 p.m., parties or coalitions can propose that new candidates be registered in the places of the deleted candidates. After this period, no further changes to the candidate lists by parties and coalitions can be made. They can only submit an application to have candidates removed. There is only one legal possibility - in the event of the death of a candidate or if he/she becomes unable to participate in the elections, the CEC explained.

The submission of applications for voting outside the country continues. The deadline for this is March 24. The Central Election Commission, in turn, has until March 28 to determine the number of sections and the locations in which they will be established. This is happening at the proposal of the diplomatic and consular missions, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

So far, 9 Bulgarian organizations have been registered to participate with observers in the elections and one international organization.
