The conditions for applying for compensation due to the increase in fuel prices have been published

The government is expected to support 1.380 million people

The Social Assistance Agency has published information on applying for the Program for Compensation of Individuals for Increased Fuel Prices Following the Outbreak of the Conflict in the Middle East.

The measure will be activated if the average retail price in the country of mainstream fuels A95H gasoline and/or diesel reaches or exceeds 1.60 euros per liter in three consecutive days according to data from the National Revenue Agency.

Through the Program, the state will provide a monthly compensation of 20 euros for individuals with low incomes who are owners or co-owners of a motor vehicle, or are paying off a car under a leasing contract. The government is expected to support 1.380 million people in this way. The funds will be provided in the month following the month in which the condition for activating the measure is met, within the terms of payment of social benefits.

People whose average monthly gross income for 2025 was less than or equal to 652.41 euros will be entitled to the compensation. The amount is equal to twice the poverty line for the previous year. Since the campaign for filing annual tax returns is underway, in case there is no information about the person's income for 2025, those from 2024 and the poverty line for the same year will be taken into account. In this case, the income criterion for access to assistance under the Program will be 537.88 euros.

The funds will be paid by bank transfer or at a post office designated by the people, after, according to data from the National Revenue Agency, the average retail price in the country of mass fuels A95H gasoline and/or diesel for three consecutive days is equal to or above 1.60 euros per liter.

Citizens who meet the conditions of the Program and who were paid benefits in January and February 2026 do not need to submit an application-declaration for receiving compensation. They will be provided ex officio by the relevant directorate “Social Assistance“ at the current address. The remaining applicants for compensation are required to submit an application, and the form is published in the section “Social Assistance“, subsection “Social Assistance“.

Applications can be submitted in person to the “Social Assistance“ Directorate; through a licensed postal operator or through an electronic administrative service after registration with a qualified electronic signature, a PIN of the National Social Insurance Institute or the National Revenue Agency in the Portal for Electronic Services of the Ministry of Electronic Governance.
