Cornelia Ninova: We need a stronger role for the state

Change of model

„Unruly Bulgaria“ and Rumen Radev's coalition are very different. "Progressive Bulgaria" offers right-wing and liberal policies - even extremely liberal. We are a left-wing formation. Center-left. This was stated by the leader of ''Unruly Bulgaria'' Cornelia Ninova in the program „Offensive with Lyubo Ognyanov“ on NOVA NEWS, commenting on the question of why Bulgarian citizens would vote for her political formation at a time when sociologists predict a victory for Rumen Radev's „Progressive Bulgaria“.

She also gave examples of the differences between the two formations. "They propose not to change the tax system. We believe that in its current form it is unfair. There should be a non-taxable minimum for the poorest people - up to the amount of the minimum wage. We propose a higher corporate tax on the excess profits of banks and family income taxation. Radev's coalition believes that the state should not interfere in determining the minimum wage and income. In my opinion, this is absurd - especially in conditions of crises, inequalities and poverty", she pointed out.

And she pointed out that she personally submitted a proposal 48 times for the minimum wage to be 50% of the average. "In the end, GERB ran and we adopted it. We are for a stronger role for the state - especially in social policy, support for small and medium-sized businesses and the middle class. They do not propose a change in the model. I will give an example with healthcare. Rumen Radev says: “We will reduce co-payments in hospitals“. This is not a change in the model - this is cosmetics. For us, hospitals should not be commercial companies," Ninova emphasized.

In the words of the leader of “Unruly Bulgaria“ she does not envy the capabilities of “Progressive Bulgaria“ in terms of the campaign they are conducting. “On the contrary - many questions arise about the huge finances that are being thrown at them. So far, it is hundreds of thousands of euros, and it could reach a million by the end of the campaign. If we had such funds, we would use them more wisely. We do not envy their lists either - they have everything there: GERB, Ahmed Dogan's MRF, BSP, ITN. There is no way to envy that,” she said.

And she was categorical that her formation claims to be the moral alternative: “From “Unruly Bulgaria“ we are categorically on a blood-red line towards GERB and MRF. While Radev's coalition shows hands outstretched towards them. While our position is clear and proven over time - we did not embrace each other with assemblies".

Ninova expressed her opinion on what measures should be taken because of the war in Iran. "Excise duties on fuels should be reduced, VAT should be reduced, reserves should be used. The rulers are passive in terms of prices. Food has been getting more expensive for a long time. They collect more VAT and use these funds inefficiently. They can compensate for the revenues through a 15% tax on banks' excess profits. Currently it is 10%. The profit for 2025 is about 4 billion - this is indecent against the background of poverty", is categorical Kornelia Ninova.
