From March 31, 2026, the Ministry of Interior will terminate the registration of a car ex officio if the owner has died and the heirs do not transfer the ownership within six months. This was reminded by the General Directorate of the "National Police".
Until now, the heirs had to notify the Traffic Police themselves, but the lack of action did not lead to cancellation, which made control difficult and led to outdated data in the registers.
The aim of the measure is to ensure the up-to-dateness of the registers, prevent abuse and facilitate the management of road vehicles.
